Introduction
SayAmen ("SayAmen," "we," "us," or "our") operates the SayAmen mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the App.
By creating an account or using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information: email address, display name, and authentication credentials (managed by Supabase Auth).
- Profile and prayer preferences: prayer schedule, session duration goals, notification settings, prayer style, and onboarding choices you provide.
- Prayer activity: verse or prayer reference prayed, session duration, completion timestamp, and a speech-recognition confidence score. We do not store audio recordings or full transcripts of your prayers.
- App blocking configuration (optional): on iOS, app/category tokens you select through Apple's Family Controls picker; on Android, package names of apps you choose to block. We store this so blocking works across sessions.
- Subscription status: whether you have an active premium subscription (via RevenueCat and Apple/Google). We do not receive your full payment card details.
- Device and usage data: basic diagnostic logs (e.g., errors, app version) needed to operate and improve the App.
Voice and Speech Recognition
When you use "pray aloud" mode, the App accesses your device microphone only while a prayer session is active and you have granted permission.
Audio is streamed in real time from your device to our backend server, which forwards it to Deepgram, Inc. ("Deepgram") using the Nova-3 speech recognition model solely to produce live text for on-screen word highlighting.
SayAmen does not save, store, or retain your voice recordings. Live transcript text is used only during the active session on your device and is not written to our database.
We do not use your voice data to train our own models. Deepgram is a third-party processor. Under Deepgram's standard terms, audio sent to their API may be processed on their infrastructure; retention practices are governed by Deepgram's privacy policy and your Deepgram account settings if applicable. We recommend reviewing Deepgram's documentation at deepgram.com/privacy.
You can decline microphone access and still use parts of the App that do not require speech tracking.
How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you.
- Provide prayer sessions, streak tracking, schedules, and optional app blocking at prayer times.
- Send prayer reminder notifications you configure.
- Process subscriptions and restore purchases through RevenueCat and the App Store or Google Play.
- Maintain security, prevent abuse, and comply with law.
- Improve reliability and fix bugs.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers that help us operate the App, under contracts that require them to protect your data:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and account storage.
- Deepgram — real-time speech-to-text during active prayer sessions (audio stream only; not stored by SayAmen).
- RevenueCat — subscription and entitlement management.
- Apple / Google — in-app purchases and platform services when you subscribe.
- Cloud hosting (e.g., Render) — backend API that proxies speech streams and serves app data.
App Blocking and Screen Time
On iOS, optional app blocking uses Apple's Screen Time / Family Controls APIs. Blocking rules and selected apps are stored on your device and in the App Group shared container required by Apple's extensions. SayAmen cannot access the content of blocked apps—only the identifiers you explicitly select.
On Android, optional blocking uses usage access and overlay permissions you grant. Blocked app package names are stored to enforce your schedule.
Data Retention
We retain account and prayer history data while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.
Voice audio is not retained by SayAmen. Temporary session tokens used for speech streaming expire within minutes.
We may retain limited logs for security and legal compliance for a reasonable period.
Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you.
- Withdraw consent for optional features (microphone, notifications, app blocking) via device or in-app settings.
- Cancel subscriptions through Apple App Store or Google Play subscription settings.
- Opt out of marketing emails (we send primarily transactional and prayer-related messages).
Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard measures including encrypted storage for session tokens on device (SecureStore), HTTPS for network traffic, and row-level security on our database. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
International Users
If you access the App from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using the App, you consent to this transfer where permitted by law.
European Economic Area (EEA) and UK users may have additional rights under GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
California residents may have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and delete personal information. We do not sell personal information as defined by California law.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy in the App and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes may be notified via the App or email where required.
